Action: document suffering
Public policy debates on ‘issues’ can distance us from how humans actually experience policy implementation. Where specific policy strategies violate basic human dignity and/or rights, you can use images and stories to bring the focus back to human experience.
Regardless of where you stand on deportation, for example, you can share an image like this photo of deported immigrants in an El Salvadorian prison and ask crucial questions like:
How would you feel if your husband/brother/father were taken to this prison?
What questions do you have about the people in this photo? About their lives? About their childhoods? About what led them to this experience?
If you are a person of faith, what do key spiritual teachings suggest about this image?
